B: That’s true.

B: 나도 그랬어. 진짜 추억 돋네. 옛날 생각 완전히 난다.
A: 가사가 무슨 말인지 몰라서 단어 찾아보고 그랬던 기억이 있어.
B: 그렇지. 예전에는 가수나 또 앨범 정보 찾는 게 그렇게 쉽지가 않았잖아.

Today’s Sentences: My Favorite Pop Songs / 내가 사랑한 팝송며칠 전 라디오에서 Backstreet Boys의 “As long as you love me” 가 우연치 않게 흘러나왔다. 이 노래는 외국 팝송을 즐겨 듣던 학창 시절의 추억을 떠올리게 했다. 나는 중학교 때 재미 교포 3명으로 이루어진 솔리드라는 R&B 그룹을 정말 좋아했다. 당시 R&B는 우리나라에서는 좀 생소한 음악 장르였다. 그래서 비슷한 음악을 듣기 위해서 외국 음악을 찾아봐야 했다. 그렇게 보이즈 투맨과 머라이어 캐리 같은 아티스트를 좋아하게 되었다. 그 뒤로 힙합 음악 장르까지 좋아하게 되었다. 팝송을 들으면서 영어 교과서에서는 보지 못했던 새로운 표현들을 접하게 되었다. 나는 그 표현들이 무슨 뜻인지 궁금해졌고 이로 인해서 영어 문화권에 대한 관심도 덩달아 커졌다. 30년이 훌쩍 지나간 노래들이지만 예전에 좋아했던 음악들을 들으면 아직도 기분이 너무 좋다.
