Today’s Sentences – English Diary
English diary at a get-together with college classmates.
Recently we talked about studying English.
A friend suggested keeping an English diary even if the diary entries are short.
I had doubts about keeping an English diary because I’m not very good at English.
My friends said to just write whatever I can and ask an AI chatbot to correct my sentences.
I gave it a try when I got home and it made my sentences sound much more natural.
Nowadays I write in my diary in Korean every day and aim for at least one English entry each week.
Although they are still short entries with just a few lines a piece, I plan to expand them as I get used to it more.
I usually only write about bickering with my adolescent daughter but I hope to write about more diverse subjects eventually.
최근에 한 대학 동기 모임에서 영어 공부 관련된 이야기를 나누었다.
한 친구가 짧아도 좋으니까 영어 일기를 쓰면 좋다고 했다.
나는 영어를 잘 못했기 때문에 영어 일기를 어떻게 써야 할지 의심이 들었다.
그런데 친구가 그냥 무작정 쓰고 AI 챗봇에게 내가 쓴 문장을 고쳐달라고 하면 된다고 했다.
그래서 집에 와서 해봤는데 이 AI 챗봇이 정말 내 일기를 훨씬 더 자연스러운 문장으로 고쳐주는 것이었다.
요즘은 우리말 일기는 매일 쓰고 영어 일기는 일주일에 적어도 한 편 정도 쓰는 것이 목표이다.
비록 몇 줄 안 되는 그런 짧은 얘기지만 조금 더 익숙해지면 더 늘릴 예정이다.
내용도 사춘기 딸과 투닥거리는 일상이 대부분이지만 점차 좀 더 다양한 주제로 써보고 싶기도 하다.
Writing Practice
1. 최근에 한 대학 동기 모임에서 영어 공부 관련된 이야기를 나누었다.
At a get-together with college classmates recently we talked about studying English.

2. 한 친구가 짧아도 좋으니까 영어 일기를 쓰면 좋다고 했다.

- 을 제안하다: suggest –ing
- 한 편, 1회분, 입력: entry
- 일기 한 편: diary entry
3. 나는 영어를 잘 못했기 때문에 영어 일기를 어떻게 써야 될지 의문이 들었다.

- 의구심이 들다: have doubts about
- 에 약하다: I’m not good at— / 숫자에 약하다: I’m not good at math / Math is not my thing
4. 그런데 친구가 그냥 무작정 쓰고 AI 챗봇에게 내가 쓴 문장을 고쳐달라고 하면 된다고 했다.

5. 그래서 집에 와서 해봤는데 AI 챗봇이 정말 내 일기를 훨씬 더 자연스러운 문장으로 고쳐주었다.
I gave it a try when I got home and it made my sentences sound much more natural.
- 시도해 보다: give it a try
- –을 자연스럽게 만들다: Make — natural.
6. 요즘은 우리말 일기는 매일 쓰고, 영어 일기는 일주일에 적어도 한 편 정도 쓰는 것이 목표이다.

2. 훨씬 더 자연스럽게 들리다: sound much more natural
AI 챗봇이 정말 내 일기를 훨씬 더 자연스러운 문장으로 고쳐주는 것이었다.
AI Chatpot made my sentences sound much more natural.
나는 훨씬 자연스럽게 들릴 때까지 연습을 계속했다.
I practiced until I sounded much more natural.
3. 최소 –를 목표로 삼다 aim for at least —
영어 일기는 일주일에 적어도 한 편 정도 쓰는 것이 목표이다.
I aim for at least one English diary entry each week.
하루에 30분은 최소한 운동하려고 한다.
I aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.
Dialog Practice
