Key Expressions

 

1. 부과하다: Charge —

학생들에게는 1시간에 2천 원 정도의 요금이 부과된다.
They charge around 2000 won per hour for students.

그 사건에 대해서 나는 아직도 좀 씁쓸한 마음이 가시지 않았다. 아직 극복이 안됐다.
I am still a bit bitter about that incident. I haven’t been able to get over it.

나는 그가 결과를 못 마땅히 하는 것을 눈치챌 수 있었다.

Dialogue Practice

A: Did you have a good weekend?
B: I went to a study café and lost myself in a book for a while.
A: Oh really?
B: Yes there’s a nice place just around the corner from my house.
A: You must be a regular there.
B: I go whenever I have a book I want to read.

A: 주말 잘 보냈어?
B: 응 스터디카페에 가서 정신없이 책을 읽었어. 집 근처에 좋은 곳이 있거든
A: 거기 단골인가봐.

These days you can easily find many study cafés in every neighborhood. Some open style study cafés provide large tables without dividers almost like regular cafés where you can sit and study.

On the other hand, reading room-style study cafés have partitions for each seat between the two. I prefer studying in an open style seat. Typically study cafés charge around 2000 won per hour. This can be a bit of a burden for students.

Most of these cafés offer light snacks along with coffee and tea. In the past I used to go to study cafes to hit the books with my son.

However, many study cafés these days restrict entry for students below middle school age.
I’m a bit bitter about it as it feels like I’ve lost an opportunity to create fond memories with my son.
