I woke early in the stillness of the guesthouse. The morning streets of Hongdae were beautiful in their quietness.

I walked to a nearby Starbucks at Hongdae Station Exit 8 for a light breakfast — an Americano and a sandwich (7,900 KRW) — a simple beginning to a day that would soon sparkle.

🚇 Heading to The Hyundai Seoul

Hongdae → Line 9 → Gongdeok Station, Transfer to Line 5 → Yeouinaru Station
Exit 1, turn left, then walk straight until the sleek building rises ahead.

Every winter, the 5th floor of The Hyundai Seoul transforms into one of Seoul’s most beloved holiday destinations — Atelier de Noel, a breathtaking Christmas Village overflowing with lights and music.

🕒 Hours: 10:30–22:00

At 11:30 AM, the queue opened.
I scanned the QR code, and a KakaoTalk notification popped up.

There were 326 teams ahead of me.

The number alone spoke to its popularity.
While waiting, I explored the department store and met two friends who came from Daejeon and Gyeonggi.

Warm sunlight, soft chatter, rich flavors — a lunch that lingered like a long exhale.
With coffee afterward (15,000 KRW), time passed easily.

After lunch, we explored the store at a slow pace, enjoying the soft glow of Christmas decorations and the joyful holiday energy.

🌟 2:00 PM — Finally, Entry Notification

This year’s theme is “Harry’s Christmas Atelier (Atelier de Noël)”,
featuring a heartwarming story that follows the journey of Harry the Baby Bear, the signature Christmas character of Hyundai Department Store.

Stepping inside felt like stepping into another world — a world made entirely of glittering lights, glowing trees, sparkling ornaments, and smiling faces.

Photo zones everywhere, laughter in the air, hands full of joy.

Somewhere between the lights and the music, we stopped thinking and simply lived — taking photos, talking endlessly, feeling like children again.

It reminded me of the famous Christmas shop Kathe Wohlfahrt in Rothenburg, Germany —
only larger, brighter, and far more alive.

Where I once knew him as the elegant illustrator behind the stained-glass of St. Vitus Cathedral, this exhibition revealed a different Mucha —
an artist who carried the pain of his people, a revolutionary spirit who fought with brush rather than sword.

The finale, “The Slav Epic,” was breathtaking — 20 monumental works portraying the history and endurance of the Slavic people.
A testament to how art can carry the weight of a nation.

🍲 Dinner — Hampyeong House

Weekend crowds made dining inside The Hyundai impossible, so we walked to a nearby restaurant and shared:

Taking the Line 9 express to the Express Bus Terminal,
I caught the 8:45 PM bus back to Sejong (13,900 KRW).

A long day, yes —
but one that left my heart lit like the Christmas lights overhead.
