🌅 Into the World of Mr. Sunshine —
A Journey Through Mr. Sunshine Filming Location – Sunshine Studio
Every step I walked with you
became the steps of my lifetime.
Every moment spent with you
felt like a gentle picnic in my heart.
This is not a goodbye—
just a see you again.
Into the landscapes of Mr. Sunshine,
here at Sunshine Studio, Nonsan.
On December 9th, 2025, I rewatched Mr. Sunshine on Netflix— still, undeniably, the greatest drama of my life.
To hold on to that lingering emotion, I headed to Sunshine Studio in Nonsan, the very filming site of the drama.
Located right next to the Nonsan Army Training Center— the beginning of Korea’s national defense— the studio was filled with soldiers that day, visiting for historical education.
There was something poetic about watching them walk the streets of this recreated era, echoing the spirit of the righteous armies portrayed in the show.

🌟 Main Highlights
1. The Gyeongin Line Train
The first thing you see at the entrance.
This is the very train where Eugene Choi sacrifices himself to save Ae-shin in the final episode.
Even without wheels, the silhouette alone evokes deep emotion.
Behind it lies a small recreation of the Foreigners’ Cemetery, adding even more to the atmosphere.
2. The Glory Hotel
Run by Kudo Hina (Kim Min-jung), the most iconic location in the drama.
1F: props, letters, handkerchiefs, highlight clips
2F: Sunshine Café (Gabaejeong)
In the drama, the hotel explodes—but that was entirely CG. The real structure still stands beautifully.
A Western-style hotel once run by Kudo Hina (played by Kim Min-jung).
It served as the main gathering place where Eugene Choi and Kim Hee-sung stayed and where crucial information constantly flowed.
1st Floor: Featuring real props from the drama— Hina’s dress, letters, photographs, handkerchiefs, and other pieces that still hold traces of each character’s story.
2nd Floor: Operated as a café called Sunshine Gabaejeong
From the terrace, you get a panoramic view of Jingogae Street and Hongyegyo Bridge.
Fans visit this Mr. Sunshine Filming Location to relive the drama’s most iconic scenes.
3. Jingogae Street (Japanese Settlement Street)
A narrow alley beside the hotel.
Based on real historical streets like Chungmuro and Honmachi
Featured in scenes where Dong-mae confronts drunken Japanese ruffians
Incorporates actual historical directives from the Japanese consulate at the time
4. 🍶 The Tavern Where the Three Men Shared Drinks & Dongmae’s Room
A small, dimly lit tavern that recreates the unforgettable scene where Eugene, Dong-mae, and Hee-sung shared drinks together.
Their unlikely friendship — full of rivalry, honesty, and unspoken respect — comes alive in this cozy corner of the studio.
On the 2nd floor, there is Dong-mae’s room — a recreated Japanese-style residence capturing his solitary, conflicted world. A must-see spot for fans of his character.
A vivid walk through Korea’s complex modern history. – Mr. Sunshine Filming Location
5. French Bakery
Where the chef sold colorful old-fashioned candy in the drama.
Inside, the red-bean shaved ice that Ae-shin shared with Haman-daek, and the rainbow castella she once ate with Hina—
both are displayed here, quietly holding the sweetness of those moments.
6. Hongyegyo Bridge
A legendary filming location:
Where Eugene and Ae-shin first shared unforgettable moments
Where Hong-pa met her tragic fate
Where electricity was introduced to Hanyang in the drama’s storyline
The view of Jongno Street from the bridge is stunning. – Mr. Sunshine Filming Location
7. Hanseong Electric
Hanseong Electric, founded in 1898 by King Gojong, was Korea’s first electric company, later becoming a symbol of Japanese authority during the colonial era.
The original building no longer exists, but Sunshine Studio recreated it based on historical records.
In Mr. Sunshine, this is where Ae-shin and Eugene carried out their sniper mission.
Today, the space functions as a small museum and café,
and the second floor features a mini Mr. Sunshine gallery—complete with photos, quotes, and a replica of Eugene Choi’s office. – Mr. Sunshine filming location
8. Jongno Street
Jongno Street begins right outside the Hanseong Electric building.
This recreated boulevard reflects the heart of early 1900s Hanyang, lined with shops, signboards, and tram tracks that capture the busy energy of the era.
In Mr. Sunshine, this street appears in multiple scenes— from daily marketplaces to moments of tension as foreign powers moved into Joseon.
Walking here feels like stepping straight into the drama’s world. – Mr. Sunshine Filming Location
9. Bosingak Pavilion
Right at the entrance of Jongno Street stands Bosingak Pavilion, a familiar landmark recreated from Seoul’s historic bell tower.
In Mr. Sunshine, it marks the starting point of the busy Jongno district, symbolizing the heartbeat of the city during the Korean Empire era.
10. The Apothecary
Where Eugene and Ae-shin exchanged secret messages.
A small but beautifully detailed set.
11. The Carriage
The very horse-drawn carriage that Eugene and Ae-shin once rode together— carefully restored so visitors can step into their moment and capture it in photos.
12. Yangpumjeom (Costume House)
A restored replica of the Imperial Marshal Headquarters of the Korean Empire.
1F: a mannequin dressed as Gu Dong-mae
2F: Eugene’s suit, Ae-shin’s shooting hanbok, Hina’s gowns
Various Enlightenment-era outfits and hats available for rent
One of the most popular spots for themed photos. – Mr. Sunshine Filming Location
13. The Fabric Shop
A key location from the drama’s ending sequences.
Fans especially remember the emotional scene where Dong-mae cuts Ae-shin’s braid.
14. Daehanmun (formerly Daeanmun)
The original gate of Deoksugung Palace.
Renamed after reconstruction
Symbolizes “Great Peace,” yet witnessed turbulent history
In the drama, Daeanmun is the gate where the people gathered, crying out in desperation as they petitioned the king about Japan’s cruel exploitation of their goods. – Mr. Sunshine Filming Location
15. The Hansung Tram & Tramway
A recreation of Korea’s earliest electric tram system.
Asia’s second electric tram (after Kyoto)
Connected Seodaemun → Jongno → Dongdaemun → Cheongnyangni
So expensive that “riding all day could ruin your fortune”
Appears in several pivotal scenes with Hee-sung, Dong-mae, and Ae-shin
Operated in real life until 1968
Sunshine Studio sometimes runs a special nighttime tram event
A nostalgic journey into Seoul’s early modernity.
16. Three Men’s Flower-Petal Date
The trio once jokingly called the Badeungjjo—those three “loveable fools”—
had such beautiful, unforgettable chemistry together. The scene was filmed in front of the exhibition hall Moonbanggu (“Stationery Shop”).

The tree in the courtyard appears to have been a jujube or cherry tree.
17. Gobang of the Madang-jip
The Gobang (storeroom) of the Madang-jip is recreated as Go Ae-shin’s house, serving as the secret hideout of the Righteous Army.
This quiet, traditional space is where Ae-shin concealed weapons and supplies—
a humble room that reflects her unshakeable resolve to defend Joseon’s spirit amid rapid modernization and foreign threats. – Mr. Sunshine filming location
18. Hwaweollu
The site of the scene where Dong-mae rescues Hotaru from drunken men.
“Daeil Sanghoe” signage marks the entrance
Hwaweollu itself was a real Japanese restaurant during the late Joseon era
Ties into the rise of culinary houses like Myeongwolgwan after the abolition of the gisaeng system

21. Western Tailor Shop
A cute little stop that feels like stepping into 1900s Seoul. Vintage sewing tools and fabrics make it a fun spot for a quick photo.
This spot recreates the tailor shop featured in Pachinko, the drama that follows a Korean immigrant family striving to survive and thrive after leaving their homeland during the Japanese occupation.
22. Hansung Noodle House
The studio’s only real restaurant—perfect for a warm bowl of udon during your walk. Cozy, simple, and a nice break in the middle of your visit.

23. Foreigners’ Cemetery & Traditional Houses
A mixture of late Joseon hanok and early Japanese homes,
illustrating Korea’s transitional architectural styles.
