🏡 Korean Apartment Life : Korean Home Interior – Korean Apartment Tour in Sejong City
We moved into this place 14 years ago, back in December 2011, as one of the first residents of Sejong City’s First Village (첫마을, Cheotmaeul Apartment).
What immediately stole our hearts was its rare structure for an apartment — a 3-story duplex.
Believing we would live here for at least 30 years, we decided to begin a full renovation. For 40 days, we worked on extensive remodeling:
full tile replacement
woodwork & wall paneling for wainscoting
electrical system redesign for wall sconces
multiple structural improvements
✨ Every design decision — from the entire layout to tiny details like handles and faucet designs — was chosen entirely by my husband and me.
And that’s what makes this place even more precious — our true home.
✨ Floor Layout
• 1st Floor — home office, storage room, laundry room
• 2nd Floor — bedroom, living room, kitchen, main entrance
• 3rd Floor — three bedrooms
🪜 Entering the Home – 2nd Floor
The entrance is located on the 2nd floor.
Walking through the central garden and our small entry garden, you’ll find the front door.
A few pots of plants that we care for year-round welcome you right outside the door. – Korean Home Interior
📍Foyer & Entryway
Vintage-style brass mirror and a small bench greet guests warmly.
🏠 Opening the Main Door
When you open the double doors, you step directly into the kitchen.
To the right is a bedroom, and the staircase that connects all three floors — down to the 1st floor and up to the 3rd floor.
This central staircase is the heart of our home.
To the left is a small bathroom, and the kitchen island stretches through the center, leading to the living and dining area. – Korean Home Interior
✨Living Room, Dining & Kitchen
As you step inside, the kitchen opens in front of you, and the living room continues to the right.
Although compact, this shared space feels cozy and welcoming — just perfect for the two of us.
Our dining table is where we spend most of our time: eating, talking, celebrating ordinary days.
Next to the kitchen is our little home café, where we make coffee every morning.
💛 Personal Note
All the design plans — from the overall layout to the smallest hardware details, including lighting, faucets, door handles, and door styles — were created by my husband and me.
And because of that, this home has become even more precious to us.
A true labor of love.
From the living room sofa, we relax, watch TV, and sometimes play PlayStation together.
🌳 Seasonal Views
From both the living room and the second bedroom on this floor, the outside view is stunning.
In late autumn, golden ginkgo and red maple fill the space with warm light.
In winter, the quiet snowfall turns the courtyard into a peaceful winter garden.
🪜 Going Up to the 3rd Floor
💡Stairway & Lighting
Soft lighting and artwork guide the way upward, creating a gallery-like mood.
📍 Stairway featuring classic wainscoting and framed artwork
📍 Vintage chandelier & wall sconces
🕯 Landing Corner
At the top of the stairs, a small corner displays one of our favorite Lladro porcelain sculptures — a quiet but meaningful accent.
🛏 Master Bedroom & Healing Space
To the left is the main bedroom, connected to a walk-in closet, powder room, and a second bathroom.
The bathroom includes a dry sauna, and the master bedroom holds a full-body massage chair, creating a space for real rest and healing.
We insisted on using wall sconces we love — they fill the room with a soft classic glow.
In one cozy corner sits a handmade rag doll crafted by my mom — a sentimental piece full of warmth.
🏺 Porcelain Gallery & Travel Collection Room
On the right side is our porcelain gallery and travel collection area.
My husband creates traditional Korean pottery, and I collect Western porcelain pieces through my travels.
Every plate, teacup, and figurine carries a story of a different place.
Opposite the gallery we keep dolls handmade by my mother and souvenirs from many countries.
“Every corner of our home holds a piece of our journey — created, collected, and cherished.” – Korean Home Interior
📚 Going Down to the 1st Floor –
As you walk downstairs, you’ll find: a laundry room, a storage room, and a spacious home office
💼 Workspace
These double doors lead to our creative workspace, where we write, translate, and research.
Two large desks, bookshelves, and wide windows make it a bright space filled with focus and inspiration.
We didn’t include photos of the storage room, but it sits neatly beside the laundry room and keeps everything organized. – Korean Home Interior
🔧 Home System Tips — For Those Curious About Korean Apartments
- Heating: District heating with traditional Ondol floor heating system
(warm floors in winter — one of the best parts of Korean homes!)
Cooling: Built-in system air-conditioners
(optional depending on building and unit — not installed by default)Water & utilities: Water and common-area maintenance are included in the apartment management fee
Gas: Provided through city gas service, although we don’t use gas because we cook with induction instead
