While Google Maps works globally, it may not always provide accurate walking routes or real-time public transport directions in Korea. Naver Map offers more precise navigation in English for hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.

🏥 1️⃣ ID Requirements & Basic Procedures (2026 Update)
✅ Do I need an ID?
Yes. Under Korea’s “Verification of Identity” regulation, patients must present an original physical ID.
Short-term visitors: Original passport (photos or copies not accepted)
Long-term residents: Residence Card (ARC) or Mobile National Health Insurance Certificate
⚠️ Emergency patients and minors under 19 are exempt.
✅ Can I visit without an ARC?
Yes. You can receive treatment using only your passport. However, some public health centers may have stricter administrative procedures.
💰 2️⃣ Medical Costs & Insurance (2026)
If You Do NOT Have Korean National Health Insurance (NHI)
Expect to pay approximately 2–4 times more than insured residents.
Cold/Flu visit: ₩25,000–₩40,000
Emergency room: ₩250,000–₩600,000+
If You Are Enrolled in NHI
Average monthly premium (self-employed foreigner, 2026): approx. ₩158,000.
300-Visit Rule (NHI members only)
If you visit outpatient clinics more than 300 times per year, your co-pay increases to 90%.
This rule is designed to prevent excessive outpatient use and does not apply to:
Emergency care
Inpatient hospitalization
Uninsured foreigners
📱 3️⃣ Telemedicine & Digital Healthcare (2026 Update)
Since 2024, Korea has expanded non-face-to-face medical consultations.
If you have previously visited a clinic for a condition, follow-up appointments may be available via apps such as Doctor Now or Goodoc.
⚠️ Medication must still be picked up at a pharmacy in person. Delivery is limited to specific groups.
National Health Checkup 2026
2026 is an even-numbered year.
If your birth year ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, you may qualify for a free or subsidized national health checkup.
Confirm eligibility with NHIS.
